Challenging the narrative of gender inequality, a non-fungible token (NFT) dubbed ‘Fearless Girl’ which is hype for women interested in crypto was unveiled yesterday and is currently being auctioned. The announcement of its launch was declared open by Kristen Visbal, the sculptor in charge of designing and molding the statue.
The statue had initially launched during International Women’s Day in 2017. It stands right across the New York Stock Exchange facility on Broad Street. The bronze sculpted statue depicts the image of a young woman standing 1.2 meters tall with arms akimbo while raising her head high.
During its initial creation at Bowling Green, a plaque was placed right under the statue. An inscription “Know the power of women in leadership. SHE makes a difference,” was written on the plaque. The Fearless Girl projects the message of gender equality in workplaces, especially during recruitment.
This release of the virtual format (short movie) of this iconic statue is a stride in the advancement and acceptance of NFTs globally. It is also a means to propagate the word about the motive for the statue and also attract women into the world of crypto which is colonized predominantly by men.
Kristen mentioned in an interview that the Fearless Girl sculpture promotes equal rights for men and women, equal compensation in workplaces, access to education for women, support for women in politics, and other broad female parity matters.
According to Kristen, women all over the globe can now carry their own Fearless Girl with them anywhere and anytime. She also said earnings from the auction will be channeled towards facilitating events and projects for the service of all. This is just one out of the 226 NFTs that she intends to release in the long run as she gives virtual life to her artworks.
